"The Buddy Holly Story" and "La Bamba" were the first films in the trilogy - the untold story of The Big Bopper completes the saga of the three musicians killed on "the day the music died." Despite his portrayal as a novelty act or one-hit wonder, Jiles Perry Richardson, Jr. was actually a gifted songwriter who wrote three songs that reached #1 and is now credited with the invention of the music video.
The timeless appeal of the music these men made was illustrated when Rolling Stone magazine named Buddy Holly the 13th most influential musician of the last 100 years in 2004. The music these men did make will live forever - and will be re-introduced in this film to the under-35s who didn't see La Bamba or grow up listening to the music.
The film plans to use "Chantilly Lace," "That'll Be the Day," "La Bamba," "Everyday," "Come On, Let's Go," "Oh, Boy," "Not Fade Away," along with "White lightning" (written by Bopper, which launched the career of George Jones) and "Running Bear" (written by Bopper for Johnny Preston) and several of his lesser-known songs, including "Beggar to a King," "Pink Petticoats," "Someone is Watching Over You Tonight," "Walking through my Dreams," "That's What I'm Talking About" and "The Big Bopper's Wedding." As the Bopper was really an early rapper, we hope to have one of today's popular rappers cover "Chantilly Lace" to appeal to the younger audience.
